Kris Nielsen, social media director for Soave Automotive Group, hatched a face-off with Matt Staub, a local public transportation advocate, after Staub tweeted that cars are useless compared to public transportation.

When this went down last winter, Nielsen set up a race in which he would drive a car and his Twitter challenger would take the train from Union Station in Kansas City, Mo., to Millennium Park in Chicago- the first one to arrive would win.

An excerpt of the story is below:

“For Soave’s Aristocrat Motors in Merriam, Kan., the race offered the perfect opportunity to highlight the Jaguar XJL’s all-wheel-drive technology. It also was a chance to leverage social media, a growing priority for the dealership group.”

Another unusual social media promotion from Soave Automotive Group’s Kris Nielsen was when he and Justin Meyer, then social media manager for Kansas City International Airport, held a race across Missouri between a Porsche Panamera and a Southwest Airlines jet in 2011.
