It was a beautiful day for a photo shoot yesterday! Charleston Home+Design Magazine came by the home of our President and CEO, Mr. Tommy Baker, to photograph Mr. Baker at his Sullivan’s Island residence, which will be featured on the cover of the magazine this summer!

Our countdown to the Charleston Wine + Food Festival is in full swing! We hope you’ve gotten your tickets, since the event is filling up fast for its March 1 kickoff date!

Did you know that Tommy Baker, President and CEO of Baker Motor Company, is also the College of Charleston’s School of Business Entrepreneur-in-residence? Along with that, he also serves on the College’s Board of Governors and co-teaches “Seminar in Entrepreneurship.” College of Charleston calls these adjunct faculty members  business “all-stars” who teach courses in their areas of expertise, which CofC says provides a strong practitioner perspective that its students embrace.

Even though this is Mr. Baker’s last year teaching entrepreneurship classes, we are so proud to see how his students grow and go out to make an impact in our community and world. It has been a tremendous experience he has loved to be a part of and that we at Baker have learned from as well!

It’s official: the new Porsche SUV will be called the Macan. Derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, the Macan combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics into the new off-road vehicle. It is also a central plank of Porsche’s planned growth, with the automaker opening up a state-of-the-art factory in Leipzig just for this vehicle’s debut in 2013.

Porsche initially called the vehicle the “Cajun” but said the name might change. The Macan name of “suppleness” certainly is fitting, since it is the smaller sibling of the Cayenne, which stands for sharpness. We anticipate this vehicle to be a smaller but supple – and compact – addition to the Porsche lineup, and we’re excited for its debut.
